Ok I a mother of 4 ... I am not rally into makeup but aging sucks so I know how to apply foundation an lipstick and lash stuff but what about the eyes and the bronzers? How can I learn to apply makeup and look great?
I am a make-up artist and this is one of the main question.
The system of applying makeup for a natural look is fast and easy when you get the hang of it.
Steps:
1. Understand that a 'natural' look is one that uses colors that are right for your skin tone. How much you use, and where, depends on your personal style.
2. Make sure your concealer is yellow in tone since it mutes imperfections without adding color, giving your skin a natural look.
3. Apply foundation that matches your skin tone. The right foundation will seem to disappear on your face. If you are African-American, it's a good idea to have light, medium and dark shades of your foundation to allow for different gradations of color on different parts of your face.
4. Apply eye makeup in earthy tones'beige, brown, gold or plum for shadows and brown and charcoal gray for liner and mascara. Skip liner or shadow entirely if you want to keep makeup light.
5. Choose a blush color that is close to the color of your cheeks after you've exercised.
Tips:
Remember to clean and moisturize your face first.
Choose brighter or darker tones for a stronger, more made-up look.
Intensify your natural makeup for evening. Instead of brown, for example, go for charcoal around the eyes. 'Pop' blush with a brighter color over your usual one. Make lips brighter, darker or more shimmery.
I hope that helps. How can I learn to apply makeup and look great?
Try the makeup store
Upscale department stores have cosmetic counters staffed by trained cosmetologists (for big name brands such as Clinique and Estee Lauder). Stop by and have one of them help you--or call ahead for an appointment. (Be sure to find a babysitter so you and your cosmetologist are not interrupted or rushed.) Some are more private than others, so be assertive and say ';no'; if the setting is too public for you.
You can also call a Mary Kay rep from the yellow pages. She will come to your home and teach you about basic skin care and MK products. The fun part of this is that you can invite a few friends and all do this together.
All of these companies (and probably others in your area) have free samples so you don't end up spending big bucks on stuff you don't like.
Have fun!
Try going to the makeup department at your local department or makeup store. Many places have expert staff that can do free makeovers where they show you tips and tricks on how to apply and what colours to use. This is a great way to see what looks best for you. You can get them to write down what products they used and smear a sample, so you can buy it there or a similar product at a discount shop. These places often also give sample products to try.
The key to applying make-up is PRACTISE! But in saying that it is also very important to have the right tools. This website is great because it tells you the exact tools you will need: http://www.nzgirl.co.nz/articles/7782

Ok Mama,
you are a minimalist when it comes to makeup....so take a few of these tips from a cosmo gurl and a mama that knows!
1. make sure your makeup regimen starts out with a totally clean face (cleanse, tone, moisturize and exfoliate once a week....and not anything that is too grainy like if you can feel it it's too grainy...i.e. Swiss Formula Apricot too grainy!)
2. i just started using some Vichy products at CVS...some retin a with vitamin C for the dark puffy circles and fine lines yippy! lol.
3. concealer is great for those tough spots....sometimes you can skip foundation unless you have uneven toned skin if you have blemishes use green, if you have purplish under eyes use yellow and if you have yellow spots then use the light purple concealer (think of the primary colors in a color wheel yellow, red and blue these all make up brown!) that's straight from the salon gurl!!!
4. if you need cheek color use 3 shades light on top of the cheek bone gives the illusion of a high cheeck bone (whatever is light appear larger!) middle shade on the cheek bone and just underneath a darker color (contours - gives that sucked in look when you pucker up! lol)
5. bronzer is good to achieve that sun glowing look if you do use that then you must do your neck and arms if they are exposed because it will appear that your face is tanned and the rest of you is still pale in comparison.
6. eyes: there is so many options here...sometimes i use blush, sometimes i have used lipstick in a pinch, sometimes i wet the applicator before putting on shadow, sometimes i put chapstick on before and skip wetting the brush, sometimes i get tubes of eye shadow that's creamy....whatever colors you use remember these rules: 1. don't match your eye color 2. don't match your blouse 3. blend blend blend 4. darker shades recede (appear smaller) and lighter colors jump out (appear bigger) 5. no harsh lines 6. be careful when mixing up cools and warms some will tell you NOT to do this i would just caution you til you experiement and find out like i know i can't wear blues and yellows together looks horrible! lol
7. you stated you know how to put on lip color, mascara and everything else
hope this helps....

have a good day!
First things first...get rid of that old style foundation!!!
I'm 47 and am told every day I look at least 10 years younger due to the makeup I wear. It's practially invisible.
WalMart sells Physicians Formula powder foundation. You've seen the infomericals for the expensive stuff...PF is just as good. You dab a bit onto a little brush and cover your problem areas. You use the swirl for a finisher and then a bronzer. You then use the blush (All Physicians Formula) and highlight your cheeks and jawline, hairline and basically contour. A little secret to the eyes, instead of wearing shadow, use blush. Just take the applicator, apply to the crease of the eyelid and a bit above. It's completely natural looking.
As for the eyes, a liner in a soft pencil form with a smudger on the end. Just take the liner, draw a little line from the top of the lash line inward about halfway. Smudge a bit and then pull slightly down on the lower lid and draw a line there. Nothing too harsh, just a little line.
Now the lips. This is the really easy part. Get a shade of liner just as close to your natural lip color as possible. Fill in the lips with the lipliner. Put gloss over the liner and you're finished.
This is all done within 10 minutes. It doesn't look like you have on makeup but the coverage is amazing. The true trick of makeup, especially as we age, is looking like we don't have to work at it.
Make sure you moisturize and drink alot of water. Using a skincare regimen with a scrub will help you have a radiant glow. Bronzers are awesome, they cover discolorations and give you a healthy tan look. As for the eyes, experiment. Use different colors of shadow and liner and try the liner on the top and/or the bottom. You really have to try different looks to find the one you really like.
