What does 'buffing' mean when applying makeup?

I keep reading about it as the best way to apply makeup but am not really sure what it meansWhat does 'buffing' mean when applying makeup?
Swirl, Tap, %26amp; Buff are directions given on how to apply mineral makeup or powder to your face. Buff is to apply in small circles all over your face %26amp; upper neck. Dont buff to hard, it will remove your makeup too. Dont use too much it looks cakey %26amp; too fake.

Some people use a kabuki brush, but I find that it applies a bit too much mineral makeup for my face~~its very fair.

So I use a poofy or fluffy face brush to apply mineral makeup. A better quality makeup has more pigment in it~~so a nice fluffy brush is just right since a little makeup goes a long way.

I prefer Sonia Kashuk brushes that I got at Target. You lightly swirl your brush in the makeup, tap off the excess %26amp; then brush in a downward motion over your face. No need to buff. If you鈥檇 like more coverage, just repeat the steps again. What does 'buffing' mean when applying makeup?
Think of when you buff your nails, or buff a car; it just means to rub-in with some sort of instrument until it is evenly spread. Buffing in terms of applying makeup usually refers to a blush, or powder. Just use a brush and apply in a circular motion until evenly applied.
